Anne Torres
I am primary school teacher and tutor. I have worked with children and adults in a range of educational settings and countries. As well as teaching the primary curriculum, I also have experience teaching English as an additional language and working as a Forest Schools leader. I really enjoy teaching at The Learning Rooms as it is an opportunity for children develop skills and build their self-confidence so they are happy and resilient learners.

Alex Paterson
I have been a tutor at The Learning Room for 7 years.
I am an English graduate and qualified teacher with over 25 years teaching experience, both in the UK and Italy.
I am passionate about encouraging the self-belief and expression of our students. It is a pleasure to work with young people and to see them grow in confidence.

Tony Kerrison
I have recently joined the Learning Room as director of learning after teaching Maths and Economics, and running a successful sixth form over the last 24 years. As a Maths teacher and tutor, I believe it is important to inspire and empower students to develop a love of the subject by overcoming those barriers that can occasionally stand in their way, striking a healthy balance between nurture and challenge.
I am very excited to join the Learning Room team and look forward to working with the students and families in our community over the coming years.

Abbie Bush
I'm a qualified Maths teacher with a passion for making maths engaging and relevant. I specialise in teaching A level Maths but have lots of experience teaching Key Stage 3 and 4. My teaching style is patient and supportive, focusing on building a strong understanding of core concepts. I believe that everyone can succeed in maths with the right support and look forward to bringing this ethos to The Learning Room.

Lisa Heathfield
I'm a secondary school English teacher and have experience working in mainstream schools, as well as smaller settings for students with social and emotional mental health challenges. I see every student as an individual and believe strongly in the importance of encouraging their confidence and in turn helping them to recognise their ability. I'm also an author of Young Adult fiction and am passionate about sharing my love of reading and writing.

Rupert Shortt
I’m a qualified English and Media Studies teacher and have recently joined The Learning Room having taught for over thirty years. I now specialise in teaching A Level English Literature after working in schools and colleges in London where I was a Head of an English Department, and teaching English at Key Stages 3 and 4 in East Sussex. I believe in making English accessible by drawing on pupils’ experience of reading and writing outside of class to help them see English as a great way to voice their ideas and opinions and learn about the world, and look forward to supporting our next generation to be independent and confident learners.

Gordon Macleod
I have taught maths in schools and colleges in Brighton and around Sussex for the last 15 years, from year 7 to A-level. I enjoy teaching students at all levels, whether they are aiming for the highest grades in exams, or whether they want to build confidence in the basics.
I love working at the Learning Room where we have the opportunity to work one-to-one or in small groups, so that I can really support each student at an individual level and encourage them to grow and fulfil their potential.
As well as being a maths teacher, I have also been a youth worker and have worked with homeless young people in Sussex and in East London. I enjoy playing music and I am also a qualified football coach.
